The present is not enough. It is impoverished and toxic for queers and other people who do not feel the privilege of majoritarian belonging, normative tastes and rational expectations. […] Hope and disappointment operate within a dialectical tension in this notion of queer utopia.

Utopian Ways of Seeing‘, for Zurich Art Weekend 2021

In the Art Walk ‚Utopian Ways of Seeing‘, for Zurich Art Weekend 2021, cultural mediator Neo Seefried and the participants will subject sculptures, paintings and installations to utopian mind games. The queer utopian imaginary allows Seefried to stimulate food for thoughts about political dimensions. The Art Walk begins with the works of Lorenza Longhi, who deals with the contradictions of a system that only serves itself. The group exhibition 'Cockroach or Queen?’ displayed at Last Tango, and 'Issue de secours’ shown at Binz 39, ask questions to a (utopian) future: Can self-infatuation be a site of resistance? Has narcissism become a cultural norm? How can we take care of each other? Is there a way out of the mess? The walk ends with works by Mathilde Rosies who has an understanding of the world through bodily experience.
